Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force
Protecting Lorain County’s Children Online
The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is a statewide alliance of law enforcement agencies committed to protecting children from online exploitation. Serving communities like Lorain County, the task force investigates and prosecutes individuals who use the internet and digital platforms to harm children. With support from federal, state, and local partners-including the FBI, Homeland Security, and local police departments-the Ohio ICAC Task Force works around the clock to track down predators and safeguard our youth.
Local Action, Statewide Impact
Headquartered in Cuyahoga County and chaired by Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley, the Ohio ICAC Task Force includes over 350 partner agencies across the state. These agencies collaborate on undercover operations, forensic investigations, and community outreach. In Lorain County, local law enforcement works closely with the task force to respond to tips, conduct search warrants, and educate the public about internet safety. Specialized tools, including electronic scent detection K9s like “Indiana Bones,” help uncover hidden digital evidence that can lead to arrests and convictions. [ccprosecutor.us]
Education and Prevention for Families
The ICAC Task Force doesn’t just focus on enforcement-it also prioritizes prevention. Through presentations at schools, community centers, and public events, the task force educates parents, children, and educators about the risks of social media, sextortion, and online predators. Resources are available to help families set boundaries, use parental control apps, and understand how to report suspicious activity. Lorain County residents can request internet safety presentations or access materials through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the ICAC website. [ccprosecutor.us]
