General Duties of the Detectives
The Detectives within the Lorain County Sheriffs Office are entrusted with investigating a wide range of felony offenses, a responsibility that forms the core of their duties. These investigations are primarily conducted in the unincorporated areas of Lorain County but occasionally extend to municipal jurisdictions as the need arises.
Our Detectives are tasked with solving some of the most complex and serious crimes, including but not limited to:
- Murder and Homicides: Investigating cases involving the loss of life, including suspicious deaths, homicides, and other related crimes.
- Felonious Assaults: Addressing cases involving violent physical harm or the threat of harm to individuals.
- Rape and Sexual Assaults: Handling sensitive investigations concerning sexual assaults, ensuring victims receive the support they need while the perpetrators are brought to justice.
- Child Sexual Assaults: Taking on the critical responsibility of investigating crimes against children, collaborating with others using the multi-disciplinary team approach to ensure proper handling and care for vulnerable victims.
- Internet Crimes Against Children: Investigating online predators and individuals exploiting.children via technology, a growing area of concern in law enforcement.
- Fraud: Tackling complex cases involving financial crimes, scams, and identity theft that affect residents and businesses in the county.
- Thefts and Burglaries: Investigating property crimes, including theft, burglary, and other offenses involving stolen goods.
The detectives work diligently to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and conduct surveillance, ensuring that they bring those responsible for these crimes to justice. Their expertise, coupled with cooperation with local, state, and federal partners, allows them to handle complex investigations effectively, even when they cross jurisdictional boundaries.
In addition to criminal investigations, Detectives often support the community through outreach programs, public awareness campaigns, and collaborating with victims’ services to ensure victims of crime receive the care and support they need.
